Girls Camp 2009

Girls Camp this year was awesome! It's a week later and I'm still recovering. As I look back over the past week I'm sad that it ended. This year I was a Level Leader over the YCL's leading the 3rd year girls. I just can't put into words how impressed I was with this group of YCL's. I was so impressed to watch them work together in their partnerships, lead their groups and grow. It's amazing that so much can happen in just one week.
My partner Kate Downs was terrific. I loved working with her. We were a great balance for the YCL's, had lots of fun, laughed a lot and got "some" sleep.

The camp theme this year was :Family The Tie That Binds. Our level theme was Animal Kingdom. My partner and I chose to be the PHat Frogs. We had a lot of fun with it. Especially when we did from jumps on top of the picnic table and Kate almost fell off.


This year I decided to make something special for the YCL's. Of course the best laid plans do not always work out so when the charms I had order didn't show up I had to move onto the next plan. There I found myself standing in the craft store the Saturday before camp trying to create something that I thought the girls would like and also mean something.

I came up with this design. These are two of the 10 necklaces that I made. Each one was unique but followed the colors of the animals they had chosen for the group. One Monday evening I shared a spiritual message about being a leader. "Like a true shepherd, a leader shows others the way, inspiring them to follow him." I also talked about that after camp they needed to continue to inspire and live high standards because the girls that they inspire this week will look to them every time they see them in the months and years to come.

Funny how being a leader makes you step up to the plate.



Girls camp is in my blood and this year lived up to expectation. Now onto summer.
